This policy explains how Icy Seas Co-Laboratory LLC handles information when you visit pelagia.studio or contact us through this website.

1. Scope #

This policy applies to the public informational website at pelagia.studio, operated by Icy Seas Co-Laboratory LLC (“Icy Seas,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

It does not describe the handling of scientific or project data processed using Pelagia, data managed through a separately deployed instance of the software, or information governed by a research agreement, contract, data-use agreement, or other project-specific terms. External websites and services linked from this site maintain their own privacy practices.

2. Information associated with a website visit #

Website analytics #

The site uses two analytics services:

• Self-hosted Plausible Analytics. A script served from analytics.icyseascolab.io records page views and limited aggregate usage events, including outbound-link clicks, file downloads, and hash-based navigation. Analytics reports may include the requested page, referring source, general browser and device category, and coarse geographic information. The standard Plausible tracker does not set cookies.
• Google Analytics 4. Google Analytics collects page-view and session statistics, approximate geolocation, browser and device information, referring sources, and related website-interaction data. It ordinarily stores a pseudonymous client identifier in a first-party _ga cookie. Google states that IP addresses are used during collection to derive location information and are discarded before the information is logged.

We use these services to understand which pages are useful, evaluate site performance, identify broken or ineffective links, and improve how information is presented. We do not ask either service to receive names, email addresses, scientific data, or the contents of messages sent to us.

Hosting and security logs #

This static website is hosted through GitHub Pages. When a GitHub Pages site is visited, GitHub logs the visitor’s IP address for security purposes. GitHub may also process ordinary request information such as browser or device information, requested pages, referring pages, and request timestamps under its own privacy statement.

3. Information you choose to provide #

The website uses email links rather than an embedded contact form. If you contact Icy Seas or an individual listed on the site, we may receive your name, email address, affiliation, message content, attachments, and any other information you choose to provide.

We use that information to:

• respond to inquiries and provide requested information;
• evaluate possible services, support needs, or collaborations;
• coordinate meetings, proposals, deployments, and project work;
• maintain appropriate business and scientific correspondence; and
• meet applicable legal, contractual, security, or recordkeeping obligations.

Please do not send passwords, payment-card information, government identifiers, protected health information, or other highly sensitive personal information through the website’s email links.

4. Cookies and your choices #

The self-hosted Plausible Analytics tracker used on this site is designed to operate without cookies. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies and similar browser technologies to distinguish browsers and sessions.

Most browsers allow you to delete or block cookies through their privacy settings. Blocking analytics scripts or cookies may reduce the information included in our aggregate reports but should not prevent access to the public website. Google also provides a Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. How information is disclosed #

We do not sell personal information or provide contact information to third parties for their own unrelated marketing.

Limited information may be processed or disclosed:

• to service providers that support website hosting, analytics, email, security, and ordinary business operations;
• when reasonably necessary to provide a requested service or coordinate a collaboration;
• to comply with applicable law, a lawful request, contractual obligations, or sponsor requirements;
• to protect the rights, safety, security, or operations of Icy Seas or others; or
• in connection with a business reorganization, transfer, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate protections.

The primary website service providers described in this policy are GitHub, Google Analytics, and our self-hosted Plausible Analytics service. Their processing may occur in the United States or other jurisdictions where they or their service providers operate.

6. Retention #

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and for legitimate operational, scientific, contractual, legal, tax, security, or compliance needs.

Analytics retention depends on the applicable service configuration. Email and business correspondence may be retained while an inquiry, collaboration, proposal, support matter, or project is active and afterward when needed for appropriate records. Information may be deleted, anonymized, or aggregated when it is no longer reasonably needed.

7. Security #

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information and the scale of our operations. These measures are intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or loss. No website, email system, or storage service can guarantee absolute security.

8. Your privacy rights #

This website is intended for scientific, professional, and educational audiences and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children through this website. This site links to external organizations, publications, code repositories, profiles, and the Pelagia demonstration service. Following an external link sends your browser to a service we do not control. Review that service’s privacy information before providing personal information.
